How could we have a Snow White devotion and not suggest an apple-themed snack? Click here to find a recipe for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Apple Dumplings,” inspired by the dumplings Doc requested Snow White to make!

Doc: Uh, can you make dapple lumplings? Er, lumple dapplings?

Grumpy and Sleepy: Apple dumplings.

Doc: Yes, crapple dumpkins.

Or, for a healthier and simpler option, you could have apple slices with caramel, melted chocolate, peanut butter, etc.

Serve your non-poisoned apple snack with “Wishing Well Water.”

Devotion:

Are you going through life like you’re under a sleeping potion? Or are you living like you’re awake?

There is another reason for doing what is right. You know what time it is. It is time for you to wake up from your sleep. The time when we will be taken up to be with Christ is not as far off as when we first put our trust in Him. -Romans 13:11

The Proverbs 31 woman is definitely living life with her eyes wide open! She’s prepared. She plans ahead. She’s not worried when winter comes and snow fills the air, because her family already has clothes to keep them warm.

I’m going to be completely honest with you—I am on the opposite side of this quality. I’m the world’s worst procrastinator. My “planning ahead” is usually the day before (or sometimes the day of, tbh). This often results in lots of stress and me scurrying around last minute, trying to get things done. But do I want to stay this way? No! It’s actually something I’m trying to work on right now (and I know it’s going to take a lot of discipline). Being more organized and prepared can save us from so much unnecessary stress, and that’s why it’s a Biblical quality! God always wants what’s best for our lives.

So let’s look at two different ways that the Proverbs 31 woman is prepared.

1. She’s prepared for life on earth.

Snow White displays this quality perfectly—when she arrives at the Cottage of the Seven Dwarfs, she wastes no time in whipping the place into shape. Later on, she takes care of the dwarfs by cleaning and cooking delicious meals for them. She works hard and plans ahead.

What might this look like in your life? Do you have cooking or cleaning you need to do? Tests you should study for? An event you need to plan for? A project that has to be completed? Maybe you have a packed week that’s overloading your brain. Take some time and make a schedule! Write down all the things you need to do, when you need to do them and what things you need to be able to do them.

2. She’s prepared for life in Heaven.

More importantly than any earthly task, the Proverbs 31 woman is prepared spiritually. She lives each day for her Savior. She faithfully serves Him, knowing that the only thing that will matter at the end of her life is what she did for Him.

As the song “Awake” by LoveCollide (above) says:

One thing’s up to you
Once you come to faith
In everything you do
With every breathe you take
There’s no time to waste
Live like you’re awake

Snow White lived like she was awake until the enemy came and tricked her into believing a lie. Even though the shiny red apple might’ve looked good and tasted sweet, it was full of poison. It’s the same with sin. It may look good, but it has deadly results.

Why live like you’re asleep? Let your Prince come and wake you up! Jesus gave His life for you—in return, you have the incredible privilege to live your life for Him! Someday your Prince will come back. Will you be prepared for Him?

Questions:

  1. What did you learn from the Scripture passages?
  2. What Bible verse really stood out to you?
  3. What does it look like to be a girl or a woman who’s prepared?
  4. Take a few minutes to write down your schedule. How can you be more organized this week?
  5. How can you live like you’re awake and be prepared for Jesus’ return?
