Sweeping, dusting, cooking, mending, mopping. That’s all Cinderella had time for! In the words of Jaq the mouse, “Work, work, work.” And yet, even though she was forced to be a maid by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella did all of her work with energy and a happy attitude.
Maybe you feel like Cinderella with all the work you have to do. Sometimes it’s hard not to get overwhelmed, uninspired or just plain burned-out. But you CAN do your work energetically and cheerfully, just like Cinderella! True, you may not have the help of birds and mice, but you do have Someone far greater—Jesus! Take this verse to heart:
In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people. -Colossians 3:23
A large portion of Proverbs 31 talks about how hardworking and productive the Proverbs 31 woman is. From morning until night, she’s constantly going—working with her hands, weaving her own cloth, planting a vineyard, preparing food for her family. She understands how short and precious her time is here on earth, and she makes the most of every moment! She doesn’t waste her time on things that don’t matter.
Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. -Ephesians 5:16-17
Wow. What an inspiration! This is how I want to live! I want to wake up and seize every moment of every day. I want to live with productivity and purpose. I want to stop wasting time scrolling through social media when I could be doing something that matters. I want to use my precious time on earth to know God and carry out His purpose for my life. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I can take steps in the right direction every day. And so can you! With God’s help, it’s possible!
Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people. -Proverbs 22:29
