Devotion:

She watches over her family and never wastes her time. -Proverbs 31:27

Doesn’t this sound like Moana? In order to save her family and her village from certain doom, Moana set sail on a dangerous journey across the ocean. She knew she was called for a purpose—she’d felt that calling ever since she was young—and she was determined to fulfill it.

Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. -Jeremiah 1:5

While Moana’s mission to save her people was important, the Proverbs 31 woman’s mission was far greater—she was determined to follow GOD’S calling on her life. She knew that nothing on earth mattered more than living for Him! Her heart’s desire was to fear the Lord, serve Him and make the most of the life He’d given her. She was determined to take care of her family, work hard and never suffer from laziness.

You call me out upon the waters. -Hillsong UNITED

How far will you go? Are you following God “out upon the waters,” or are you feeling stuck on the shore? I don’t know where you are in your journey right now, but I just want to encourage you to keep following Jesus! You—yes, YOU—are so special to Him, and He has a calling on your life! He created you with a purpose. But He doesn’t ask you to do this alone—He promises to be in the boat, sailing on the ocean of life right alongside you. Through the days when the sunshine is glistening on the waves and the seasons when you’re sure the storms are going to wreck you. So let God take control of the boat, and simply follow Him.

If you’re not sure what He’s calling you to do, start here:

For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son. -Romans 8:29a

Every believer in God has the same calling—to become more like His Son, Jesus! And how do we do that? By spending time with Him and learning more about Him through His Word. Take small steps. It doesn’t have to be some big, shiny ministry (see what I did there?) or a daring mission. It could be, but serving God in the “little” things is just as important. Fearing the Lord. Loving others. Taking care of your family. Never wasting time. Or, trying your best to never waste time.

Moana was determined to save her family, and she didn’t waste any time on her mission. I encourage you to run out upon the waters and follow whatever calling God has on your life—first and foremost, to become more like His Son—no matter how many storms and setbacks you face. God knows how far you will go, and He promises to be with you every step of the way!

  1. Hi, Jenny! I love the Proverbs 31 Princess devotionals. I would love it if you could do at least two more devotionals, one about Anastasia Romanov from the 1997 film Anastasia and another one about Aurora, from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.
