I’ve been jumping out of bed every morning so far this year, bubbling with excitement to read my Bible. Why? Because I’m such a holy person? Pfffft, no way. (I’m a mess.) Because I’ve started using some new things in my Bible study routine? Yes, partly. But the real reason—the real, true, beautiful reason—is that Jesus carried me through a dark place last year, and through that, He pulled me closer to Him. The brokenness taught me to hunger for Him like never before. And now that He has brought me out of the pit of despair and healed my heart, all I want to do is spend time with Him.

I want this for you, too, friend. If you and your Bible are in a dry season right now, don’t worry! You’re not alone. I’ve been there so many times. You can—and will—overcome it with Jesus’ help! I hope these tips are an encouragement to you.

Thank you to DaySpring for sponsoring this post! Their new Women of the Bible: Better Together Bible Journaling Kit just came out, and guys, it’s adorable! I’m so excited to share it with you! The part that really makes me happy is that this kit (and the next two) go along with my Bible, the (in)courage Devotional Bible. (This Bible wasn’t sent to me; I found it online last month and genuinely adore it!)

Tip #1 – Spending time in the Bible is spending time with your Best Friend; a Friend who always loves to be with you.

The rest of the tips in this post are fun, but this is the only one that truly matters. You can have an expensive Bible, a warehouse of craft supplies and all the washi tape in the world, but none of that means anything—it’s all about you and Jesus. Not you and your fancy Bible journaling page. You and JESUS, you and your Savior, you and your Best Friend.

Are you lonely? Depressed? Is your heart broken or filled with fear? Whatever you’re going through, Jesus is the answer. He is always there for you. He is the comfort, the peace, the joy your heart is desperate for. He is the friend who always listens, always cares, always wants to spend time with you. And reading the Bible is one of the greatest ways you can do that.

Tip #2 – Save up for a Bible you love or try a new version.

With that said, there are so many ways to make your time with Jesus even more personal and fun! One way is to invest in a Bible that’s just right for you. I can’t tell you how much getting a new Bible every once in a while inspires me!

And if you’re not able to get a new Bible, that’s totally fine. Another way to freshen up your Bible study is by trying a new version! You can use a site like Bible Gateway or go to The Bible App and read any version you’d like for free.

Tip #3 – Use supplies that make you happy.

You don’t have to own a whole aisle of craft supplies. (But, I mean, I wouldn’t complain.) Just a few simple items that you love can bring so much joy to your Bible study time!

These little Bible journaling kits from DaySpring are perfect! I just received mine in the mail today, and I had so much fun opening it up and looking at all the supplies. Some things in this month’s kit are:

  • stickers
  • washi tape
  • stamps
  • paperclips
  • devotional cards

And the theme of these kits—Women of the Bible: Better Together—is just wonderful. The devotions are all about women in the Bible who were better together through service, friendship and their love for Jesus. I really think these kits would be a lovely addition to your Bible study! Order yours here.

I’m obsessed with these little stamps (especially the flower one).

This was an unexpected surprise—the kit also comes with a cute little DaySpring card! Thank you to the sweet ladies at DaySpring for sending this to me!

Tip #4 – Make your Bible study time relaxing and cozy.

Your time with Jesus is an escape from the world. A place where you can breathe. I don’t know what this looks like for you—burning a cupcake-scented candle, grabbing a fuzzy blanket, making a cup of coffee, diffusing essential oils—but whatever makes you calm, happy and cozy, do that!

Tip #5 – Start a prayer journal.

Guys. Guys, guys, guys. I started using a prayer journal in July, and it changed my life. The journal didn’t change my life, but it did help me spend more time talking to God, and THAT changed my life. If you struggle with setting aside time for prayer and focusing on it like I do, I encourage you to try this out! All I did was get a cheap floral notebook from Target and start writing prayers like letters to God. (Make sure you add the date!) Not only did this draw me closer to Him, but being able to look back and see how He answered my prayers/worked in my life has been incredibly special.

  1. How truly inspiring this whole post is! Tip #1 was so moving that I almost stopped reading and grabbed my Bible. I read all the way through, but now, I gotta go! Time to go hang out with my best friend 💕.
